Cost information

Estate administration

Bereavement can be emotional and stressful. My priority is to help deal with an estate sensitively and professionally. This guide gives you a general indication of costs - a tailored estimate is provided during our initial consultation.

Applying for a grant of probate may take between 4-10 hours of my time based on an hourly rate of £275 + VAT. This would include writing to asset holders to collect date of death information, preparing an inheritance tax return, and submitting the application to the court. Upon receipt of the grant, you can either deal with the estate yourself or I can help you with the administration.

Disbursements include:

  • Court fee - £273

  • Copies of the grant - £1.50 each

  • Land registry fee - £3

  • Inheritance tax  - 40% of the net estate over the nil rate band and any exemptions available

If you require assistance with administering the estate, collecting the assets, preparing estate accounts, liaising with HMRC regarding inheritance tax, and distributing the estate this is likely to take in the region of 20-30 hours.

This is on the assumption that there are under 10 beneficiaries, a valid Will, no foreign property and this is non-contenious. This should be treated as a guide and a tailored estimate is provided during our discovery meeting.
